Thomas Anthony Casoria

Sun, Apr 28, 2002; by Jo-Ann Casoria. I am proud and saddened to say that my cousin, Firefighter Thomas Anthony Casoria of FDNY Engine 22, gave his life on September 11th. It is difficult to try to describe such a vibrant life in the limited space/time we have, so I'll stick to the basic facts in this outline:

Tommy was born February 23, 1972 in Queens, New York, to Carlo and Judy Casoria. He was the youngest of children, the oldest child was Carlo Jr. (also a FDNY firefighter) and the middle child was Janine.

Tommy was an exceptional athlete who always put 150% of himself into whatever sport he played. (Baseball from 5 years old to 18 years old, football in H.S., and softball there-after.)

People gravitated towards Tommy. He had a heart of gold and endless patience. He was everyone's "go to guy." Tommy also had an awesome sense of humor, he could impersonate just about everyone. Tommy absolutely loved being a firefighter. He loved helping people and being one of the guys.

Tommy reported to work that morning, before the call went out. He and Engine Co. 22 entered the North Tower, while their other squad Ladder 13, entered the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

Shortly before the North Tower fell, Tommy radioed that he was separating from members of his squad to answer a mayday, "firefighter down," call that came over his radio.

Tommy was recovered on April 8, 2002. However, authorities will not release his body for burial until he and the unknown firefighter recovered with him, are identified through DNA.

Then Tommy will ride Engine 22 for the last time on his way to his final resting-place.

If you would like to know more about this extraodinary man through the memories of his friends and families, go to the World Trade Center victims site at Legacy.com/LegacyTribute and search for Casoria, Thomas.
